どこか切なく、それでいて強烈な印象を残す彼女の作品世界と、タトゥーに込める情熱について話を伺いました。
Based in Tokyo, tattoo artist Log captivates a massive following both in Japan and abroad. The pieces born from her hands are one-of-a-kind “anime-style tattoos”—a seamless fusion of a deep love for 90s and early 2000s anime culture and her own unique digital aesthetic.
We sat down with Log to talk about her passion for tattooing and the world of her artwork, which leaves a poignant yet powerful impression on all who see it.
タトゥーを始めたきっかけ
How She Got Her Start in Tattooing
Logがタトゥーの道を歩み始めた背景には、家族の存在がありました。 幼い頃から絵を描くことや漫画を創ることが大好きだった彼女に、最初にこの世界を勧めたのは、実の父親だったと言います。
「ある日、父から『その大好きな絵を、紙じゃなくて肌に描いてみたらどうだ？』と言われたんです。キャンバスが肌なら、自分が描いた絵がその人と一生一緒にいられるんだよ、と。その言葉が心に残り、私のアーティストになるきっかけとなりました」
「タトゥーと一緒に自分自身も成長してきた」と語る彼女の作品は、常にクライアントの人生に静かに寄り添っています。
amily played a pivotal role in the background of Log’s journey into the world of tattooing. Since she was a young girl, she loved drawing and creating manga, but it was actually her father who first suggested she pursue this path.
“One day, my dad said to me, ‘Why don’t you try drawing those pictures you love so much on skin instead of paper? If the skin is your canvas, the art you create can stay with that person for the rest of their life.’ Those words stuck with me forever, and that’s how my journey as an artist began.”
“I’ve grown right along with my tattoos.” True to her words, her approach is one that always quietly aligns with and stays close to the lives of her clients.

Logのタトゥーを語る上で外せないのが、「Log eyes（ログ・アイズ）」というコンセプトです。魔法少女アニメに出てくるような、視覚的インパクトが強くエモーショナルな「キラキラした目」をベースに、彼女は独自のデジタルエフェクトを掛け合わせます。
「ある時、その瞳にグリッター効果やグリッチ（バグ）、カーソル（矢印）の形をした涙、そして初期のデジタルテクスチャを組み合わせるアイデアを思いつきました。私はWindows 98に代表される初期のデジタル時代からも強い影響を受けていて、アナログからデジタルへと移行する時期の、あの不器用で不完全なインターフェースに愛おしさを感じるんです」
When discussing Log’s tattoos, the concept of “Log Eyes” is an essential element that cannot be overlooked. Basing her designs on the emotionally charged, “sparkling eyes” with high visual impact—reminiscent of those found in magical girl anime—she blends them with her own unique digital effects.
“At one point, the idea came to me to combine those eyes with glitter effects, glitches (bugs), cursor-shaped tears, and early digital textures. I am deeply influenced by the early digital era, epitomized by Windows 98. I find a certain charm and affection in those clumsy, imperfect interfaces from the period when we were transitioning from analog to digital.”

To create an instant visual impact, the character’s face fills the entire screen. To make the character feel “alive,” she recreates the perspective distortion caused by a camera lens and deliberately adds moles, giving the character a distinct, human individuality.
「特に、当時の手描きによる『セル画』の風合いが大好きなんです。デジタルアートでは完全には再現できない、低彩度な色使い、カチッとしすぎない柔らかな不完全さ、そしてアナログの温かみ。そうした質感が、タトゥーという表現にものすごくマッチしていると感じました」
“I especially adore the texture of the hand-drawn ‘cel art’ from that era. The low-saturation color palettes, the soft imperfections that aren’t too sharp or rigid, and the warmth of the analog medium—things that can’t be fully replicated by digital art. I felt that these exact qualities matched the medium of tattooing beautifully.”
Logのコメント：「昔ながらの技法を形にするのは簡単ではありませんでした。Gペンのインクのコントロールや、絵の具のコントロールなど、多くの試行錯誤を繰り返しました。そうした苦労があったからこそ、セル画という表現媒体の素晴らしさを実感しました。」
“Bringing traditional techniques to life was no easy task. It took a lot of trial and error, from managing the ink flow of the G-pen to controlling the paint. But it was precisely because of those struggles that I truly came to appreciate the sheer beauty and magic of cel animation as a medium.”
彼女がアニメスタイルにこだわる理由は、単なるキャラクターの再現にとどまりません。タトゥーは、時間の経過とともに色が自然と柔らかく、落ち着いたトーンへと変化していきます。
「経年変化していくタトゥーは、まるで古いアニメのワンシーンや、色褪せた写真のようです。作品がゆっくりとお客様の肌に馴染み、時間が経つほどにさらに深い味わいや雰囲気を増していく。そのプロセス自体が、私の作品の魅力だと思っています」
Her dedication to the anime style goes far beyond merely recreating characters. As time passes, the colors of a tattoo naturally soften, shifting into a more subdued, settled tone.
“A aging tattoo is just like a scene from an old anime or a faded photograph. The artwork slowly blends into the client’s skin, and as time goes by, it gains an even deeper character and atmosphere. I believe that this process itself is the true charm of my work.”

Art That Gently Warms the Heart
Logがアーティストとしてやりがいを感じる瞬間は、視覚的な美しさを超えて、タトゥーが誰かの「大切な記憶」と結びついたときです。彼女は、かつてドイツから訪れたクライアントとの忘れられないエピソードを明かしてくれました。
施術後に突然泣き出したそのクライアントは、彫ったばかりの「デジモン」のキャラクターを見つめながら、こう語ったと言います。「これは、少し前に病気で亡くなってしまった、一番の親友が大好きだったアニメなんです。彼にはもう二度と会えないけれど、このタトゥーが彼の思い出として、私の体に一生残り続けてくれる」と。

The moments Log finds her work as an artist most rewarding go far beyond visual beauty—it is when a tattoo connects deeply with someone’s “cherished memories.” She shared an unforgettable story about a client who once traveled all the way from Germany.
Upon completing the session, the client suddenly burst into tears. Gazing down at the freshly inked Digimon character, they said, “This was the favorite anime of my best friend, who passed away from an illness not long ago. I can never see him again, but this tattoo will stay on my body for the rest of my life as a memory of him.”
“Seeing them thank me over and over again, before I knew it, I was crying right along with them,” Log recalls. “A tattoo isn’t just like clothing or a piece of art; it becomes a part of someone’s most precious memories and can sit quietly by the deepest parts of their heart. That was the exact moment I felt truly grateful to be an artist.”
Like closing the digital screen in front of us to gaze into the city’s darkness or dive into old tales, the tattoos Log inks continue to light a beacon of unchanging nostalgia and warm solace on the skin of those navigating our restless, modern world.
