Design Series: Tancho (Japanese Crane)
At our studio, The Good Cat Scratch, each artist possesses a distinctive and powerful style, shaped by their own values and creative experiences. We are dedicated to creating original works, always striving to offer each client a truly unique piece.
This time, we are pleased to introduce “Tancho – Japanese Crane”, a design series by artist Takkakei. Using geometric forms and delicate gradients, the series captures the refined elegance and graceful vitality of the crane, expressed through an extreme simplicity of composition.
As he developed his artistic career, he established his distinctive style of simplifying forms to their essence while expressing them vividly through shape and color.
This approach began with his body art project H/U/M/A/N M/A/C/H/I/N/E (→Go To Website) a series of conceptual works that explored the relationship between the human body and design.
The creative process from this body painting series continues to influence his current expression as a tattoo artist.
His style—capturing the essential qualities of animals and natural phenomena, and expressing their character and individuality through form and color—has shaped a world uniquely his own.
In this Tancho series, he focuses on the crane as a motif, observing its movements and nature to depict its beauty and presence through the most minimal forms.
He continues to create new designs, offering them to clients as original works of art.
While inspired by the cranes often depicted in traditional Japanese paintings, Takkakei’s works are composed with such delicate balance of layout and geometry that they seem almost ready to come to life.
Within their geometric structures, his expressions evoke a sense of living breath, beautifully uniting the aesthetics of stillness and motion, reason and emotion.
Artist Takkakei, beyond the Tancho series, transforms and reconstructs polygons into various geometric forms to express subjects such as beloved pets and special scenes with his unique sensibility and style.
His works embody warmth and vitality within their geometric compositions, evoking a deep emotional resonance through simplicity and refined expression.
